Philippines cheer for any law or program that benefits Filipinos who are persons with disabilities(PWD). But do we really value the rights of PWD in the Philippines?
There's a video posted by Facebook user Erickson Galura just recently showing how certain Mall employees treat his deaf friends.
According to his post, they were enjoying their time in the PWD area of the food court then a guard approached them and asked, "Customer ba kayo?". Erickson answered the guard "Opo kuya" since he is the only one who is able to speak in his group.
The guard left and after 5 mins, he came back with another mall employee and again, asked them if they were customers. Erickson answered the same.
This time his PWD friends are asking him what is going on. He felt pressured due to the employee's questions.

"Ano ba namang klaseng mga tao yan! Nakakainis di marunong mag isip mga yan! Hay nako very wrong talaga tsk"
"Hayst... Kawawa naman mga friends mo... Pero pag pray pa di natin si kuya guard at kuyang naka ID na mabuksan puso at isip nila sa mga ganyang sitwasyon......( May araw din sila...) 😤😤😤"
"In the first place, they're considered as PWD. Ang weirdo lang ng reasons nina kuya, kase once na located ang food stalls sa food court, it means pwede kang kumain don."
"We may not know the whole story behind this video but it's just saddening for our PWD brothers and sisters...they weren't fully aware of what was happening at that moment but we could see that they were worried. Yes, the mall may have its policies regarding the use of its food court but does it also consider our government's Magna Carta for the PWD's (RA 7277)? One of the mall's advocacies is that "it Cares" (for senior and pwd) but how much and to what extent does it do? Don't know if it was only the guard's first time to see a group of PWD's staying together at snack time (wondrin how he was alarmed by the PWD's). Nevertheless, the op mngr and the guard were able to talk with them in the calmest way they could (but pressuring) hehe. We have no right to judge any of them...The issue here is not about who's right and who's not...at the end of the day, it's how we deal with people around us, able or not. #justsaying #KudosToSirinBlackShirt #InclusiveOpportunity
