Hotdogs is one of the most favorite foods of children. Some even have tantrums when they aren't given some hotdogs. Because of its delicious taste children couldn't resist them.

Parent's tend to stick on hotdogs because not only they taste good they are also easy to cook it most likely to consume an estimated time of 10 minutes for it to be cooked.

It is true that hotdogs are convenient in some ways and eating them every once in a while won't do any major damage to the body but the problem is more and more people are frequently including hotdogs in their diets, especially children.

What is wrong with hotdogs?

According to several studies, it has been proven that eating hot dogs more often and any other processed meats like sausages can lead to health problems because they contain a high content of fats, sodium, purines, oils, refined flours, sugar and other chemical compounds that can affect your health in the long term.

According to steptohealth, there is an article published in Los Angeles Times, stating that an epidemiologist from the University of Southern California revealed that "children who eat more than 12 hotdogs a month are 9 times more likely to develop leukemia." Also in his article, he also cited other studies that mothers who ate a hotdog a week during pregnancy, were at a higher risk for developing brain tumors.

Why are hotdogs bad for you and your children?

Studies found that hot dogs contain a significant amount if nitrites, they are used to preserve the food as well as keeping them looking fresh. When the hotdogs are cooked the nitrites combine with the amine found in meat to form carcinogenic N-nitrous compounds.

Studies have found that these compounds have been associated with a greater risk of liver, stomach, brain, and esophageal cancers.

According to steptohealth, "In children, this substance has been linked to a greater risk of childhood leukemia and brain tumors."

Things you can do about it:

* Not all hot dogs and sausages contains N-nitrous compounds. You can notice that there are different kinds of hot dogs and sausages that don't contain these hamful compounds that can be safely consumed. The things you must remember is that the ones that contain nitrites are often had an attractive reddish color to make them look fresher and the ones that are safe to eat are often paler and less attractive.

* Eat more healthy foods other than eating hot dogs, especially if your children are going to eat with you.

* Only eat hot dogs occasionally, preferably in smaller portions.
